IRVING PENN PORTRAITS

A major retrospective of portraits by the late American photographer Irving Penn. Penn, who died aged 92 in October 2009, is famous for his portraits of stars and cultural figures including Truman Capote, Salvador DalÏ, Marlene Dietrich (my fav.), Alfred Hitchcock, Pablo Picasso and Rudolf Nureyev, and this NPG exhibition traces the photographer's seven-decade career, from his early years capturing the glamourous celebs of the 1940s for Vogue, to some of his final work, including portraits of current Hollywood stars such as Nicole Kidman. Consistent is Penn's style - characterised by simple, dramatically lit compositions - which has been widely imitated but never bettered.
To see the retrospective, you can run here: National Portrait Gallery(Feb 18 2010-Jun 6 2010)

I will be there!!!
